SUMMARY
The first International Conference on Matrix-Analytic
Methods in Stochastic Models was held in Flint, Michigan, during August
24-25, 1995. There were 4 tutorials and 13 contributed papers. The participants
came from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary,
Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United States of
America. It was truly an international conference and it was well-received.
The presentations, ranged from new developments in the field to directions
for the future, went very well and the participants had both formal and
informal discussions during and after the conference. The participants
also got an opportunity to obtain information of how the area of matrix-analytic
method evolved over the years in Russia and the former Soviet Union.
The proceedings is published as a book by Marcel Dekker. The details
are:
Matrix-Analytic Methods in Stochastic Models,
edited by Srinivas R. Chakravarthy and Attahiru Sule Alfa, Vol 183, Lecture

Our sincere thanks to all the participants, referees, and the scientific
advisory committee members, who made this conference a great success.
The participants unanimously supported the idea of having this conference
on a regular basis. Plans are underway to have the
