Information Technology FAQ
What is the difference between information technology (IT), computer science (CS) and computer engineering (CE)?
All three fields (IT, CS and CE) are related. Computer science focuses on the development of software. Computer engineering is focused on computer hardware. IT focuses on the application of computer systems to meet organizational needs. Kettering students can take course work in each of these areas.
What is the job outlook for IT professionals?
After a rough period in 2002-2003, employment in the IT field is growing rapidly. There are more IT professionals in the US today than ever before. Job descriptions in the Occupational Outlook Handbook (http://www.bls.gov/oco/home.htm) show many IT jobs are growing more rapidly than the economy as a whole.
