The Master of Science in Manufacturing Management program focuses on the management skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for a leadership position in the field of manufacturing. Students in this program will gain expertise in general business management areas, as well as a firm understanding of methods and practices in modern manufacturing facilities. Graduates of this program can expect to possess key areas of expertise that are essential to effectively manage a manufacturing operation. Students currently in this program possess a wide variety of backgrounds and undergraduate degrees. It is intended for the person who is currently in -- or desires to enter -- a management position within a manufacturing company. This program does not require a thesis.

Students entering this program must have completed courses in specified business areas. Students without this background must demonstrate knowledge in these key areas by passing an appropriate Kettering exam, or by completing some or all of the prerequisite courses.

MGMT-550 - Management Concepts & Applications (2 credit hours)

MRKT-570 - Marketing Concepts & Applications (2 credit hours)

Students should review course descriptions for prerequisites and select courses carefully to avoid lacking a prerequisite in future terms. The student is responsible for ensuring prerequisite requirements are satisfied and for completing all courses required for each degree area. Students may wish to test out of these prerequisites. Each test is $30.00.

Dual Degree Option

Students who receive their Master of Science in Manufacturing Management (MSMM) or Operations Management (MSOM) are automatically eligible for the dual degree option. Under this program, a student can receive a dual degree after completing 13 core courses required for MSMM and MSOM (prerequisite courses are additional and are not counted as part of the 13).

The two degrees have seven of the ten courses in common. The remaining three courses are specific to the degree. Students have the option to take an additional three (3) courses to receive a second Master of Science degree in the other program.

A student required to take prerequisite courses will need to take them only for the first of the two degrees, as the prerequisite requirements are the same for both degrees.

Students interested in pursuing both programs must submit two (2) applications, indicating which degree will be pursued first. Should a student pursue only one degree and later decide to obtain a second degree, a second application must be submitted.

Students have up to three (3) years from their graduation term to begin the second degree program and are allowed an additional two (2) years to complete that degree.
