Become a Kettering Co-op Partner

By now you’ve realized the benefits of starting a Kettering University co-op program at your company. From here, we will work together to develop your new co-op program, or to incorporate Kettering into your current cooperative education plan.  We look forward to welcoming you as our newest employer partner.

Next Steps

A. Contact Us

To become involved in Kettering University's cooperative education program, simply contact the Cooperative Education & Career Services Office or give us at call at (810)762-7865. We will connect you with the corporate relations manager assigned to your geographic area and get the ball rolling.

B. Tell Us About Your Company

After contacting Kettering University, your corporate relations manager will schedule time to further discuss the co-op program with you and to learn more about your organization— so we can create a co-op program that best fits your needs. Items of discussion will include

  • details about your organization – industry, size, location, and others;
  • the name, address, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of your organization's co-op contact person; and
  • the steps toward developing a strategic co-op work plan describing your company’s co-op opportunity and its desired outcomes (Kettering can help you develop the work plan).

C. Get Started

The Cooperative Education & Career Services staff will forward student resumes to you based on the information you provide about work assignments, geographic preferences and desired majors. We can also create job postings for enrolled students to view on Co-op Navigator, our web-based job posting system. The interview and hiring process depends upon a number of factors, including

  • your location;
  • the type of students you desire (majors, incoming freshmen or currently enrolled students);
  • the number and majors of students you wish to interview; and
  • your hiring time-frame.

D. Hire Our Students

After you have reviewed student resumes, the following different interviewing options are available.

  • On-site interview
    You may select and contact those students with whom you would like to meet at your organization. This allows the student to visit the work site and enables supervisors to be involved in the selection process.
  • On-campus employment fairs
    Employers may take advantage of our on-campus employment fairs. While you are always welcome to interview students at Kettering, on-campus interview fairs are held in the summer and fall, and afford employers the opportunity to talk with many students about the co-op program and your available opportunities. Formal interviews can then be arranged at your location or at Kettering.
  • Regional interview fairs
    The Co-op Office hosts local employment fairs in both Southeast and Western Michigan. These fairs are typically held in the spring and are targeted toward incoming freshmen.

You may make co-op employment offers directly to the students who best "fit" your organization. We encourage employers to extend a written offer of employment that includes information regarding wages, work hours, dress code, pre-employment physicals and drug testing, supervisor name, and other important details. Employers hiring incoming freshmen may also request that students switch sections to accommodate scheduling. Please notify Kettering's Cooperative Education & Career Services Office of your decisions.
