Past SAC Events - Summer 2008

September 18, 2008 - The last and first board meeting.  

The three J's, Jake Obradovich, Julie Straka '85 and Jeff Nolen together at the Kettering/GMI Board Meeting held September 19th. It is the last meeting for outgoing SAC President Jake, the first meeting as president of the alumni board for Julie, and the first meeting for Jeff as the incoming SAC president. As you can see Jake is also a new Robot.

September 18, 2008 - Senior Luau

Senior III's gathered for a light dinner and program at Dr. Liberty's for the annual Senior Luau.

September 17, 2008 - Last Meeting of the Term

On September 17th SAC met for its last meeting of the term at Brickstreet in Grand Blanc. A great time was had by all.
Passing the Gavel: Jake Obradovich, outgoing president, passes the gavel to Jeff Nolen, the incoming president of SAC. Deb Schnettler '00 Advisor saying goodbye to Monica Dennis Sr. III. Monica has been a great supporter and a great friend of SAC.Jake Obradovich outgoing president was recognized by SAC and Deb Schnettler '00 advisor for his outstanding leadership of the council. Jake Obradovich received the highest award SAC offers the Distinguished Leadership Award. Jeff Nolen also received the Distinguished Leadership Award for his outstanding service as Vice President of Fundraising.

September 17, 2008 - Team Building at Jack's

On Friday, September 12 SAC picked up their bowling shoes and bowling balls from Jack's Place in Flushing. The goal of the night was to break a score of 100 and stay out of the gutter. Some did and some didn't.

September 7, 2008 - Golden Circle Brunch

SAC students drove cart golfs on Sunday, Septmber 7, at Dr. Liberty's to get over 180 people to the Golden Circle Brunch.

September 6, 2008 - Bulldog Days Reunion Dinner

SAC students were among the guests at the Bulldog Days Reunion Dinner held September 6, 2008, at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Flint, Michigan. Over 140 alumni, guests, friends and staff attended the dinner to recognize Kettering/GMI Alumni Association Award Recipients and to celebrate with the Class of 1958 on their 50th reunion and the Class of 1983 on their 25th reunion.

July/August 2008 - "Launching a Leadership Revolution" presented by Don Freeze '75

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  "Launching a Leadership Revolution", written by Chris Brady '90 and Orrin Woodward '90, was again presented to SAC A section by Don Freeze '75. The students read the book and took a skills test to see where they personally ranked in their leadership skills.  

August 6, 2008 - Alumnus of the Year:  Kyle Schwulst

Imagine what it might take to be named Alumnus of the Year. Kyle graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He founded his own company, ElectroJet Inc., just one year after graduation, and serves as the CEO. He has filed 5 U.S. patents, three of which are for ElectroJet Technologies. Additionally, he has international patents in China and India, offices in China, and employs a diverse group of several employees, who happen to all be Kettering Alumni and current students. Kyle was selected for this award by the Kettering Student Government with assistance from the Alumni office and given the opportunity to speak to students on campus on August 28 over lunch. Professor Tavakoli remarked at Thursday’s lunch event that statistically, it will take a founder three tries before he builds a successful company. Since this is Kyle’s first company, I believe he has things together. The most inspirational advice Kyle provided was to take calculated risks and to not be afraid of failure because where there is risk, there is reward.
